He sold his soul for Rock ‘n Roll. He’s “The Phantom of the Paradise,” a spectacular and quite scarce resin model figure in mint condition.
Created in tribute to Brian De Palma’s ‘74 cult classic, the model was produced 15 years ago by PSI as a highly limited edition – a kit that’s no simple find today. It’s also the first (and only) full-figure model figure ever released of the Paradise Phantom.
Exquisitely sculpted by UK artist, Neil Sims, the Phantom is dynamically posed in full regalia, and features a removable mask, two expressionistic right hands, and a movie-logo nameplate. There’s also an 8” circular turntable display base with a 45 record on top inscribed with the dead bird logo of Swan Music on its label. Every piece of the kit is crisply detailed, with neatly keyed parts that practically assemble themselves. The solid resin castings are virtually flawless – the work of Mark Brokaw at Earth Bound Studios. In short, a modeler’s dream kit.
PSI’s Phantom is a 1/6 scale model, standing approx. 12” tall x 9” wide x 8” deep once built. And look how great he looks finished, as shown here in the pages of Amazing Figure Modeler #35, back in 2006.
Long lost in the plastic continuum, PSI’s fabulous Phantom has returned once more – complete, unbuilt, and ready to rage again. If you’re a fan of the finest model figures, this one’s Paradise.
