    Description

    Up for Auction is a
"Very Rare and Very Nice" Vintage Pioneer
SPEC Series Audio Equipment Rack (JA-R1a)
. These racks are a class Act and in my opinion, this one is pretty much as nice as they get on Ebay, for these 40 year old racks. This rack was built and sold by Pioneer for their Top of the Line Spec Series Preamps, Amps, their Tuners, Cassette Decks, Reel to Reels, Reverbs and Expanders etc. It is a very attractive looking metal equipment rack and will work beautifully with the above mentioned vintage Stereo Components. I bought it used many years ago, and have used it for the last 20 years. I originally had to make a couple of repairs when I first got it, so that it would be 100% functional. I've shown some pics of a couple of cracked pieces from the bottom of the lower formica shelf platform. I wood-glued and clamped the pieces back in place so the cam locks could again be used to assemble the rack. I also had to purchase (2) after-market cam fastener assemblies to replace missing fasteners. These fasteners are engineered to be  identical to the original ones. Everything works perfectly. The chrome Caster assemblies and locks are 100% functional and the equipment Rack is perfectly straight and solid. I've used Armor-All on the formica and it keeps the upper/lower shelves looking very nice. This auction includes the Equipment Rack itself,
    a
    copy
    of the
original owners' manual assembly guide, and
    (4)
sets of component mount screws, dimpled washers,
and nylon guide ring inserts (16 screw assemblies total)
. These will allow the mounting of
    (4)
Spec Series Components. The Equipment Rack is sold As/Is with no expressed warranty and no returns.
Please Read for Detailed Cosmetic Description:
The paint on each side of the left and right metal side supports, is in pretty good condition with the exception of a normal amount of scratching on the front of the side supports, where components have been mounted and dismounted over the years. I've shown a picture of the face of both the left and right side Supports. The pics show scratch marks that I've seen on pretty much every rack that has ever been used. I've never tried to have the supports repainted, because when the equipment is mounted and being used, you kind of forget about the marks because you never see any of this. There are a few marks on the formica shelves but again nothing that stands out with anything other than a very close-up inspection.
All and all, the audio rack is in very nice condition, particularly for a rare vintage rack.
Please look at all my pictures carefully.
That's pretty much all I know. I've tried to describe it as well as I can. I think this audio equipment rack would be a fantastic addition to anyone's collection. Now, in my later years, I'm selling off the bulk of my audio gear because I just don't use them anymore. If you have any additional questions don't hesitate to ask me, I'll try to answer them. Bid with confidence:

IMPORTANT:  I'm thinking I will carefully package the disassembled rack in (2) boxes, unless I can find an appropriate single box. One would be for both upper and lower shelves, caster assemblies and assembly instructions, and a second box for the left and right metal rack supports, mounting screw assemblies, and the cross support bar. I will also insure the packages for the full auction value and require signature.
Note:  If the auction is won by someone in my local area (North Texas) I would consider delivering the fully assembled rack in my van. I would also consider meeting halfway for a distance up to 100 miles or so. I would probably use the shipping cost amount to cover my time, fuel, and wear and tear.  Thanks
