    HISTORY
When Pioneer contracted with SMK to supply switches. They had SMK bastardize the mounting chassis so no other brand of switch would fit. You would have to purchase replacements from Pioneer. The SMK brand switch was either poorly designed or used inferior materials because the cam, which provides latching, would wear out prematurely. Realizing the problem. Pioneer switched to ALPS brand, SPUN series switches with a different chassis which, is no longer manufactured. This explains the reason for two different part numbers; SMK, ASG-216 ; ALPS, ASG-317.
I initially began providing a switch assembly I contracted with Toneluck to manufacture until they stopped responding to my reorder requests. I then began to provide C&K / Schadow "F" series switches without a chassis. Technicians were soldering the switches into the pcb boards without concern for the chassis. It is my opinion, Pioneer used the chassis for convenient assembly of the units. It is not required for proper operation of the unit.
Of the thousands of switches sold. I had one complaint. He believed the switches were too short and wanted a refund. I did my due diligence and discovered he was correct. I found the "F" series switches to be .4mm shorter than the original SMK brand. I began looking for a switch with dimensions closer to the SMK. I found Toneluck "PBA" series and ALPS "SPUN" series switches. Toneluck was the best choice because they manufacture both, the 4 pole and 6 pole switch, with chassis. However. As I mentioned earlier. Toneluck did not respond to my request for quote. That left ALPS. I contacted ALPS and was told they no longer manufacture the 6 pole or a chassis.
I began selling a combination of C&K, 6 pole and ALPS, 4 pole without chassis. This is what I have been offering for more than four years without a single complaint.
