This is a good example of the tungsten ore from a small producer in the mid 20
th
century. This large cabinet specimen is comprised mostly of white massive quartz with the scheelite occurring on the front and top sides. The fluorescence is very bright and typical of scheelite. The red fluorescing calcite is not as bright as the scheelite, but a little more in person than seen in the photos. The bright glow of the scheelite affects the photo. A more powerful lamp would bring out more glowing red color; ours is only 4w. A small knob of matrix is attached to the bottom. Rare find!
The specimen is numbered 12-73 from the Joseph Mitchell collection which consisted of worldwide minerals collected from 1937 to about 1980.
